I'm reading Excession by Ian M. Banks.
It's not bad. Good concepts but very annoying characters that don't seem to fit the setting.

Unaccustomed Earth. It's a collection of short stories by Jhumpa Lahiri. It's very good. Excellent, very believable characters, beautifully crafted stories. Nothing very dramatic, like the epic scifi/fantasy plots we all know and love. It's more just about family relationships, growing up, falling in and out of love, being part of the Indian/Bengali diaspora, stuff like that, but told in such a profound, beautiful way that I love it just as much as the epic-ness of the scifi/fantasy genres.

I'm reading The Evolving Self by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi (and of course I have to google how to spell that every time).

And I'm not so much "reading" The Hork-Bajir Chronicles as I am rereading it and analyzing it and scouring it for all the minor details I can find. For fanfiction purposes.

Cloud Atlas. Absolutely love it. It's 6 but interconnected stories, one inside the other. First one is kinda historical fiction, second is romance/tragedy, third is mystery/thriller, fourth is comedy/drama, fifth is scifi/action, sixth is dystopian future. And they are all awesome. And there are recurring themes and characters and events and motifs in all 6 of them, and the whole is absolutely greater than the sum of its parts.

Reading Little Women and listening to Fifty Shades of Grey book 1.
Little women is the first classic that I (whose first language is not English) actually enjoy.
FSOG on the other hand? cheesy and full of bullshit. And I haven't even started chapter 4 yet. Don't like the VERY predictable plot, don't like the writing style. I think a lot of women likes it because Christian was created to make women go all ooohhh and aaahhh, him being the perfect picture of a guy. I mean, COME ON, let's get off cloud 7 and back on dear planet earth
