I think they all died they way they would have wanted. (With the exception of Hedwig) However I think that Lupin, Tonks, Hedwig, Colin, and Fred should have lived.
THIS. IS. PANZERFREEMAN! *kicks into pit*

It was a war. People die in wars. Keeping too many main characters alive when everyone else was dying left and right would've been unrealistic, to say the least.
That being said, Mad-Eye and Lupin. They had a high-risk job, sure, and they were amongst the most likely to die, but they were some of my favourite characters.

What is not the answer to this question?

I voted for Fred because I felt like it was totally for shock value.

I don't have a problem with them dying as much as the fact that their death was completely pointless plot-wise. If you're going to kill a character, do it properly. Get something out of it. We didn't even get proper ANGST, for crying out loud! (woah, did I just say that? oO) JKR's inability (or reffraining, I don't know) to plan ahead and use the insane amount of potential that her series had just irks me terribly. I think that when an author disregards (scorns?) the very possibilities their work has for cheap crowd-pleasing or laziness, it's a terrible waste which angers me a lot.

Isn't quite sure how I feel about anything at the moment.

I feel that way about the whole series. Magical school. Could have been fun. *sigh*Luna May wrote:JKR's inability (or reffraining, I don't know) to plan ahead and use the insane amount of potential that her series had just irks me terribly.
Cheap crowd-pleasing laziness pretty much describes the whole thing, in my opinion.Luna May wrote:I think that when an author disregards (scorns?) the very possibilities their work has for cheap crowd-pleasing or laziness, it's a terrible waste which angers me a lot.
I definitely agree that if you're going to kill off a character who's been around for a while, it should serve some sort of purpose and get an appropriate reaction from characters.

Re: who shouldn't have died in deathly hallows
Most of the deaths in DH were kinda pointless, espically the ones in the last battle. I mean, at least Dumbledore got a nice sendoff and a confrintaion in his last moments (and I kinda dislike HBP as well), but Lupin, Tonks and Fred just kinda got blown off. It was annoying. If they were going to die I rather have seen them fighting or standing up for something instead of dying off screen.
