Favorite Instrumental Piece?

Post by Subfluo » Fri Jul 18, 2014 7:43 am

(Not sure if there was already a thread made about this so I apologize if there was).

There is always that one song that doesn't contain a vocalist, but kinda speaks to you as if there was a vocalist in there. In my opinion, instrumentals are difficult to write and are very hit-or-miss because they require a lot of concentration and you can't just have a basic rhythm in them. So, I'm just kind of curious, what's your favorite instrumental piece?

My favorite is "The Extremist" by Joe Satriani. The guy is a legend and one of my biggest influences. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35Z_FQMggxE

Christ, there are a few that I just plain love. A Warm Place by Nine Inch Nails and Voice of the Soul by Death come to mind. As a guitarist, I absolutely love the latter, and the Nine Inch Nails one is great considering where it is on the album it's from.

The Downward Spiral is a great album so I don't think there's anything that I would call bad from there. Never really heard Voice of the Soul, but I know Death so I'll check it out. Nine Inch Nails has some great instrumentals. Even though this song isn't exactly instrumental, the instrumental version of "The Mark has been Made" is great. Very good to relax to.

It's kind of funny, I used to have a Nine Inch Nails avatar on here.

That's neat. Yeah, not sure if you know of Fear Factory. They're a pretty decent band. Digimortal is their best album, in my opinion. You should check them out sometime.

I've heard of them. I know I should listen to them, since Gene Hoglan is the man. I've been listening to a lot of Strapping Young Lad and Devin Townsend lately.

Yeah, if it wasn't for Gene, probably wouldn't have known of Devin Townsend or Fear Factory. The man is a superior drummer. Devin Townsend's the man, though. One of the most open musicians I know of.

Devy always has some of the best stories. Maybe it has to do with his weird-ass stage shows. :P

Devin's a man of wonders. Makes you question how he grew up.
