Some books (think Hunger Games) turn out great or even better than the original story when they're translated into film. Other stories (think Animorphs TV series)... not so much.

I thought they did a pretty good job with Hunger Games - I liked the movie better than the book, which rarely happens. Cloud Atlas and Life of Pi were also pretty well done, I thought. Idk, maybe I just have more recent movies on my mind.
