A minor fluke?

Post by Will » Mon Nov 03, 2008 4:19 pm

In book five,
Spoiler:
after Jake, Marco, and Ax morph back from lobsters in front of the woman, this is written:
I looked at Ax. "Can you morph to human yet? We need to get out of here." "I can morph again," he assured me. And he started right away.
Ax should be using thought speech here, right?
Is this just a mistake in the eBook, or was it published this way? Does anybody have a printed version of book five?

Actually, I only have a printed version of the first two books, so I can't help you. But it would not surprise me if it was published that way; the books are chalk-full of minor quotation mark screw-ups like that one.

Oh, okay. I guess back when I read them I wasn't such a scrutinizing grammar freak.

That happens all the time really. There have been many times when thought-speak is printed with quotes, and regular speech is printed with <>

I have a printed version of book five. It's printed in quotations, too. I've never really paid it too much attention to that sort of thing, but typos like that are probably quite common. It could be hard to get used to typing <> instead of "".

Oh yeah. You run into that a lot when you're writing fanfics. And yes, it happened so many times in the series that it's near impossible to count them all.
