Animorphs Chronology

Post by stemperm » Mon Sep 22, 2008 4:51 pm

I am reading the Animorphs series from the beginning. Do the other books in the Animorphs universe come in the middle of the Animorphs chronology? For example, does The Hork-Bajir Chronicles or the Megamorphs book come in the middle of the main series (1-54)?

Chronologically, it goes like this:

Ellimist Chronicles
Hork Bajir Chronicles
Andalite Chronicles
#1-#7
Megamorphs #1
#8-#18
Megamorphs #2
#19-#27
Alternamorphs #1
#28-#29
Megamorphs #3
#30-#35
Visser
#36-#40
Alternamorphs #2
Megamorphs #4
#41-#54

I think the best way to read them, is not in chronological order, but by release date. Because what happens in Hork Bajir Chronicles isn't in the time line of the books, but there are some reference to the events that happened in HBC in books released after.

I agree with the last person sort of
I also believe that if you don't understand smething then reading the book that explains it can be a good idea

I'm also in favor of reading by release date. I would make one exception, though. Don't read the Andalite Chronicles until after you read book 23; it's more interesting that way. If you read it by release date, it's like (and if you haven't read either of them, DO NOT READ THESE SPOILERS),
Spoiler:
"Oh, Tobias is going to get a letter from Elfangor. But who is Aria? Probably Visser Three in morph."
But if you read it the way I suggest, it's like,
Spoiler:
"Whoa, Elfangor is Tobias's Father? Didn't see that coming."
And then you read the Andalite Chronicles and it makes a lot more sense. Of course, by now, you probably already know that
Spoiler:
Elfangor is Tobias's father
; especially if you're actually reading these spoilers.

I agree with Cappnerefir. I would also recommend saving the Ellimist Chronicles till after #54. That avoids some spoilers.

That's another good suggestion. Or you could read it first because (if I remember correctly) there aren't any major spoilers in there. You'll learn that (Again, I say not to read my spoilers unless you actually want the story to be spoiled)
Spoiler:
one of the Animorph is going to die
, but that might help you to be
Spoiler:
not as broken up when the Animorph dies.
Of course, I don't actually recommend doing this. Start with book #1. I don't even know why I suggested this, actually...

This is what I've gathered is a good order to read them. Any other suggestions? I placed the Hork Bajir Chronicles between 22 and 23 because that is what Wikipedia lists as the publication dates. Is this a good location for it?

#1-#7
Megamorphs #1
#8-#18
Megamorphs #2
#19-#22
Hork Bajir Chronicles
#23
Andalite Chronicles
#24-#27
Alternamorphs #1
#28-#29
Megamorphs #3
#30-#35
Visser
#36-#40
Alternamorphs #2
Megamorphs #4
#41-#54
Ellimist Chronicles

Speaking of spoilers, I am excitied to find out what wasn't Jake's fault, but I think I've already decided it was Jake's fault, whatever "it" is.

Your chronology sounds solid to me.
Although, as you can see, Snoopy and I (arguably 2 of the most intelligent people on this forum[not to imply that the rest of you aren't highly intelligent {especially not Elfangor, Wolfstar, Luna May, and the other people whose posts I read all the time} but Snoopy and I seem to carry the bulk of the highly intelligent discussions {not alone, of course --see the previous digression--}]) don't blame him (and we aren't alone in this; although even if we were we wouldn't change our opinions) so you might want to think twice before judging him. I personally blame Cassie (and for some reason, Wolfstar has a problem with the Ax-man).
