CHARACTERS

Post by capnnerefir » Fri Nov 14, 2008 9:47 pm

The two essential elements of any RPG are Plot and Characters. Here's half of that and what you need to know about characters:

There are two types of people in the world: PCs and NPCs. PCs (Player Characters) are chracters that are run by players. Your character will be a PC. NPCs (Non Player Characters) are characters that are not played by other players; essentially, they are characters run by the Mods and Admins. These include not only the characters of the Mods and Admins themselves but also generic enemies; the random Contrller, the Andalite fighter pilot, the human security guard...these are all NPCs.

There are two types of PCs: canon and non-canon. Canon characters are characters from somewhere (pretty mucn anywhere) in the official story. Visser Three is a canon character. All of the Animorphs are canon characters. Anyone who is mentioned in the story is a canon character. Non-canons are characters who do not appear anywhere in the official storyline. The Yeerk commander Guraff 427, for example, would be a non-canon character. There are several advantages to playing as a non-canon characters, the largest of these beeing that it gives you more freedom than canon characters. Someone playinv as Visser Three, for example, is obligated to make a certain amount of mistakes and stupid choices (because that's what the canon character did); a character playing as guraff 427 is under no such obligations.

Creating a Character
First, you must receive permission to be a certain character. This is simple. Simple PM the Mods or Admins (primarily me, capnnerefir) with the request. If the character you want is already being used in a different plot, specify in which plot you want to play the character. The next step is character creation.

Many canon characters will already have character statistics that I wrote up. Some canon characters may not have these, in which case you are free to draw them up yourself. You will have to create statistics for your own non-canon characters (although some of those may also have statistics already created). Below is the code for the character statistics sheet. Simply follow it (an example is provided to help you) and PM it to someone on the staff. If it's accepted, we'll let you know and we'll post it in this thread. Some changes may be made; you'll have to live with those.

Here is the code you will need to create a Caracter Statistics Sheet (CSS):

Code: Select all

(CHARACTER NAME)
(Plot)
Physical Statistics
Height:
Weight:
Physical Description:
Psych Eval
Personality:
Relationships:

character name : relationship

character name : relationship

character name : relationship
Character History:
Game Play Information
Faction:
Noteworthy Abilities:
Canon?:
Here's an explanation of what all that means, becuase it can be confusing:
(CHARACTER NAME) Insert the character's name in the parehtnesis (). Please put the name in all caps.
(Plot) The plot in which the character's being used.
Physical Statistics
Height: Approximate height of the character (not necessary, but helpful). A general desecription will suffice (i.e. tall, short, average height).
Weight: Approximate weight of the character (not necessary, but helpful) A general description will suffice (i.e. fat, muscular, thin, average, etc. Specify the body type here)
Physical Description: A brief description of what the character looks like. Include any details you want.
Psych Eval
Personality: A bit about the character's personality. How they think, act, their motivations, etc.
Relationships: Notable relationships that the characer has (lovers, close friends, enemies, complicated relationships). You are by no means limited in the amount of information you put here.
 • character name : relationship
 • character name : relationship
 • character name : relationship
Character History: background infor mation on the character. This should be very detailed for non-canon characters, as we need to know a bit about them. For information that you think is necessary but that you don't want other players to know, use a spoiler box like this:

Code: Select all

[spoiler2][/spoiler2]
It will look something like this: Players aside from Admins and Mods should not read these. If it is suspected that you read one, punishment will follow.
Game Play Information This is information important to gameplay.
Faction: Whose side are you on? Yeerk, Andalite, Animorph, Hork-bajir resistance? Perhaps you're a member of a previously unknown group (such as Sobo's Andaltie War-Clan) or Mersa 528's Rebellion.
Noteworthy Abilities: Here is where you put important special abilities beyond the norm of the species (such as the ability to morph).
Canon?: Is this character canon? If so, from where and in what books (for Animorphs or other characters who are in all or most books, just say something to that effect)? If not, make sure that the character history tells how the character came to be involved in this war. If it is a complicated situation (see the example below) specify.

Below, I have two examples of character statistics sheets (CSSs). The reason for the second sheet is to illustrate how much of a difference a plot can make in a character. The first is from a plot taking place in the regular, canon series. The second is from a plot based on my fan fiction series: Neomorphs, which is a continuation of the Animorphs sereis. As you will see, plot makes a huge difference.

TOBIAS
Yeerk Invasion
Physical Statistics
Height: Normal red-tailed hawk size
Weight: Normal red-tailed hawk size
Physical Description: Tobias looks like the average red-tailed hawk.
Psych Eval
Personality: Tobias is basically a kind, gentle guy. But he's also a predator. He knows how to do what must be done. Although he doesn't like fighting the Yeerks, he knows that it's something he has to do. He is completely loyal to the Animorphs and can be trusted completely. He is something of a workaholic, always keeping an eye on Yeerk operations and mapping their entrances. While he usually stays out of combat (instead keeping an eye on his friends) he has no aversion to violence and will not hesitate to use force when necessary.
Relationships:
 • Rachel : girlfriend
 • Ax : best friend
Character History: Tobias's life was never normal. His parents were (supposedly) killed when he was very young. He was shunted back and forth between relatives who didn't want anythign to do with him. He was with the other Animorphs when they wandered through the construction site and met Elfangor. During one of their first missions, he was trapped as a red-tailed hawk.
Game Play Information
Faction: Animorphs
Noteworthy Abilities: Although a nothlit, Tobias can morph; he can even morph into his old human self for two hours at a time.
Canon?: Yes (almost every book)

Here is the second example:

TOBIAS
Neomorphs
Physical Statistics
Height: Tall (around 6')
Weight: Somewhat thin, but not out of shape.
Physical Description: Tobias's eyes are so dark they're almost black. There is very little human expression left in them anymore. His hair long and shaggy since he didn't cut it after Crayak restored his humanity. His face rarely holds any expression even when his voice does.
Psych Eval
Personality: Tobias is a cold, ruthless general, pure predator. He shows no mercy whatsoever to his enemies. There is no limit to what he will do to achieve victory over the Visser and the One. He has even allied himself with Yeerk rebels in hopes of weakening the Visser. He has, several times, led the Animorphs on suicidal missions, bringing them closer to death than ever before. His outlook towards warfare now can be summed up in one of his quotes. "I would rather see myself become the Yeerks than see the rest of humanity do it." He is willing to destroy his own soul to save mankind; and he is rapidly doing it. The others fear that he is beginning to go insane from the pressure, not only from the war but also the severe stress in his personal ife.
His growing family is the one thing that Tobias will never sacrifice for any victory. He has vowed to finish this war and drive the Yeerks off of Earth before the birth of his son. He is like a father to his half-brother Alloran, often treating the aristh as a son. He is kind to these, even displaying rare bouts of joy.
Relationships:
 • Rachel : girlfriend (pregnant with Tobias's child)
 • Alloran-Sirinial-Fangor : An aristh under Tobias's command; also his younger half-brother.
 • Guraff 427 : A Yeerk overlord and the Visser's right-hand man, he and Tobias share a strange friendship brought on by their mutual respect for each other and Guraff's respect for Tobias's father.
 • Aximili-Esgarrouth-Isthill : best friend and uncle
 • Santorelli : through a twisted timeline, was Tobias's stepfather
 • Loren : Tobias's mother. They have very little interaction
 • War-Prince Glorfindel : Tobias's commanding officer
 • Cassie : when Cassie left the Animorphs, Tobias vowed never to speak to her again; he views her as a coward and a traitor.
 • The Visser (Esplin 9466) : Tobias's mortal enemy
 • Naomi : Rachel's mother; she seems to hate Tobias more than the Visser does.
Character History: Tobias was one of the Animorphs who fought in the First Yeerk War. After Rachel died in the war, he went into a solitary hermitage. When Ax was kidnapped by the Yeerks, Tobias went off to help save him. Thus began the Second Yeerk War. Early in this war, Jake passed the mantle of leadership to Tobias and then died. Since then, Tobias has led the war against the Yeerks. He was officially made a Prince by the Andalite Electorate and given command of aristh Alloran-Sirinial-Fangor, his half-brother.
Game Play Information
Faction: Animorphs
Noteworthy Abilities: Tobias can morph. He has a Howler morph, which is nearly invincible
Canon?: Yes and No. The original character was based off of the series, but he has become so radically different now that he is hardly the same person.

Below are the CSSs for all the cast members of the Neomorphs plot, both canon and NC.

Game Play Information
Faction: Animorphs
Noteworthy Abilities: Tobias can morph. He has a Howler morph, which is nearly invincible
Canon?: Yes
Prince Aximili-Esgarrouth-Isthill (“Ax”)
Neomorphs
Physical Statistics
Height: Average
Weight: Average
Physical Description: Ax has the body of an average Andalite. Blue fur, stalk eyes, etc. His tail is more muscular than that of the average Andalite due to its frequent use. In a recent battle, Ax lost one of his main eyes; it was burnt out by the acidic blood of a Kelbrid he killed. Now, that part of his face is severely scared; he usually wears an eye patch to cover the wound.
Psych Eval
Personality: Ax is, in many ways, the stereotype of an Andalite prince. Loyal, dutiful, honorable, and with more than a hint of arrogance. But his experiences have put a bit of a scar on his arrogance; he no longer believes that the triumph of the Andalites in inevitable. And his time as the Visser’s host made him somewhat bitter. This war has become more about his personal revenge against Esplin 9466 than about saving anyone or anything. He has become a bit reckless, though he will still obey absolutely.
Relationships:
 • Tobias: best friend, effective commanding officer
 • Alloran-Sirinial-Fangor : nephew
 • Visser Esplin 9466 : mortal enemy
Character History: Ax was the brother of Prince Elfangor-Sirinial-Shamtul. Through a bit of extraordinary luck (whether good or bad) he ended up stranded on Earth and fought with the Animorphs against the Yeerks. For his service during the First Yeerk War, he was made a Prince and given command of a Dome ship. Several years after the end of the First Yeerk War, he was captured by renegade Yeerks and enslaved by a being known as the One. Ax does not recall this enslavement. After the One was done with him, Ax was given to the Yeerk Esplin 9466 as a host. After several months of enslavement, he was rescued in a desperate raid by the Animorphs. He now fights with them once again, a free Andalite.
Game Play Information
Faction: Andalite Military and Animorphs
Noteworthy Abilities: Morphing
Canon?: Yes
Alloran-Sirinial-Fangor (“Al”)
Neomorphs
Physical Statistics
Height: Average
Weight: Average
Physical Description: Al is a young Andalite Aristh no older than his uncle Aximili was when he entered the First Yeerk War. He is in good shape, and frequent combat is slowly building up his physique. Females of his species would consider him “cute”.
Psych Eval
Personality: Al cares only about pleasing his Prince, Tobias. He will obey almost any order without question. However, he is also aware that sometimes, his Prince may need to be held back, and when he sees that Tobias is getting out of hand, he will mention something to him or to the others. He is happy to serve in any capacity, and often does. Some of his usual duties to his Prince include: co-pilot, secretary, gofer, and technological consultant. Al also values his family very highly; this includes not only his brother (Tobias) and uncle (Aximili) but also Rachel and David.
Relationships:
 • Tobias : Prince and half-brother; sort of a father-son relationship as well
 • Aximili : uncle
 • David : best friend (shorm)
 • Rachel : a sort of mother-son and sister-brother relationship
Character History: Al is the second son of Prince Elfangor-Sirinial-Shamtul; his mother is a scientist named Enril-Natarran-Ithnils. To protect Al from the Yeerks, Elfangor kept his existence largely a secret, even going so far as to have Al raised by machines in an undisclosed location. With the destruction of the Yeerks after the First Yeerk War, Al was released back into Andalite society.
Although he received little military training, Al was put into service in the blockade of the Yeerk homeworld and later was transferred to the fleet above the Hork-bajir planet. There, he was captured by the Yeerks. He was rescued by Tobias, with whom he remained. Tobias was made a Prince by the Andalite Electorate and Al was transferred to him. Now, Al fights in the Second Yeerk War on Earth.
Game Play Information
Faction: Animorphs, Andalite Military
Noteworthy Abilities: Morphing. Al is a technological prodigy with abilities rivaling those of the Pemalites. There is almost nothing that he cannot do with a computer, including disabling complex security systems in a very short time.
Canon?: Yes
Marco
Neomorphs
Physical Statistics
Height: 5’6”
Weight: A little on the skinny side, and kind of out of shape.
Physical Description: Marco is somewhat short, and out of shape from living the life of luxury for the last few years. Dark hair and eyes, and a similar complexion. Considered attractive by most females of his species.
Psych Eval
Personality: Marco is never without a joke. Whether his humor is a defense mechanism for him to mask his pain or whether he just really finds life constantly amusing has yet to be determined. Beneath his jokes, though, is the mind of a ruthless tactician. With some time, he can usually put together a great plan to accomplish just about anything. However, he is very cautious and tries to avoid both risks and responsibility.
Relationships:
 • Jeanne : girlfriend
 • Alloran-Sirinial-Fangor : Marco has a certain fondness for Al
Character History: Marco was one of the original Animorphs, with all the history that entails. His mother was the host body of the former Visser One; she was freed near the end of the First Yeerk War. After the war, Marco became enormously wealthy and powerful. When Marco went off to help rescue Ax, he ended up fighting in the second war as well.
Game Play Information
Faction: Animorphs
Noteworthy Abilities: Morphing; also, Marco controls vast amounts of money
Canon?: Yes
Jeanne
Neomorphs
Physical Statistics
Height: Average
Weight: Slim
Physical Description: Jeanne is classically beautiful, with dark hair and green eyes. Intense physical training has put her in great shape, which she maintains easily.
Psych Eval
Personality: Jeanne is quiet a lot, preferring to speak only when she feels that she should say something. She has some reservations about the way the current war is being fought, but she also realizes that it is a war they can’t afford to lose. In the beginning of the war, she was excited and looked forward to combat. After a few missions, though, she settled down. She would prefer to avoid combat altogether if at all possible. When asked to choose an opinion on something, she usually sides with Marco, mostly because she approves of his caution.
Relationships:
 • Marco : boyfriend
 • Rachel : step-sister
 • Santorelli (deceased) : something of a father figure to her
Character History: Jeanne’s father, Jacques, was the first French Controller. When his family was infested, Jeanne was taken to Visser One. Visser One trained Jeanne as an assassin, intending to use Jeanne against her enemies. Jeanne was infested only once; by Visser One. After a disastrous attempt to kill Prince Elfangor (Jeanne’s only mission), the girl had her memory removed and was sent back to Earth and forgotten. Jeanne grew up in foster care without any memories of her past. She eventually found her way into the government and became a member of a special operations unit.
When the First Yeerk War ended and it was all made public, Jeanne started to remember some of her past. She went off with Jake and the others when they went to save Ax; thus, she ended up fighting in the second war. She was reunited with her father (who had married Rachel’s mother, Naomi) and incorporated into the family.
Game Play Information
Faction: Animorphs
Noteworthy Abilities: Morphing; Jeanne has numerous assassination skills: minor computer abilities, lock-picking, etc. She is also trained to psychologically analyze others; a hobby of hers. In addition to this, her father, Jacques, is even richer than Marco, which can come in handy.
Canon?: Yes
David
Neomorphs
Physical Statistics
Height: Average
Weight: Plump
Physical Description: David is trapped in the body of a white rat, with all the physical attributes that entails.
Psych Eval
Personality: David is a far different person from the one the Animorphs met so long ago. His experiences with the dark side of life and his years of reflection have made him cynical, and he views most things with an air of bitter amusement. However, he is also severely repentant of his past crimes and still seeks to redeem himself. Some things haven’t changed, though. David is still cunning, clever, ruthless, and cautious.
Relationships:
 • Alloran-Sirinial-Fangor : best friend (shorm)
 • Rachel : still hasn’t forgiven him for his past crimes. She refuses to show him any trust or respect.
 • Guraff 427 : mortal enemy. There is nothing Guraff hates more than a traitor, and David is one; several times over.
Character History: Years ago, David found Elfangor’s Escafil device. A long series of catastrophes ensued, leading to David gaining the morphing power and his parents being captured by the Yeerks. David was an Animorph, briefly, before he turned against them. They trapped him in the body of a rat. When the second war began, an agent of the One offered David the ability to morph if David agreed to fight against the Animorphs. David readily accepted. However, Cassie convinced David to return to the Animorphs; now, David fights against the One.
Game Play Information
Faction: Animorphs
Noteworthy Abilities: Although he is a rat, David can morph (including a morph of hi 14 year old self)
Canon?: Yes
James
Neomorphs
Physical Statistics
Height: Tall
Weight: Athletic build; in shape
Physical Description: James has golden-brown hair and is in good shape. He takes care of his body and values it highly thanks to the years he spent in a wheelchair.
Psych Eval
Personality: James used to be the leader-type, but all that changed when most of the people under his command died in battle with the Yeerks. He fled to save his own life and still carries the shame of that. He is loyal and reliable. He’s new to this second war and doesn’t quite understand what’s at stake or everything that’s happened, but he does realize that this is bigger than before and requires different tactics. However, he also recognizes that much of what the Animorphs are now doing can be considered illegal and attempts to remind them of this. He’ll still do what he’s told, though he doesn’t often enjoy it.
Relationships:
 • James has no existing special relationships
Character History: James was paralyzed at a young age and grew up in a hospital with other disabled kids. Abandoned by his guardians, James was largely self-sufficient and became a sort of leader to the other children, often caring for them more than their doctors did. Jake recruited him and many of the others as Auxiliary Animorphs; reinforcements. James led them into several battles. In the final battle, most of James’ people were killed. James himself fled from the battle. He later started a new life on the Andalite homeworld, living with two Andalites: a physician and a Xenobiologist. The Drode transported him to Earth to fight in the second Yeerk war with the other Animorphs.
Game Play Information
Faction: Animorphs
Noteworthy Abilities: Morphing
Canon?: Yes
Guraff 427
Neomorphs
Physical Statistics
Height: Approximately 9 feet tall
Weight: Heavily muscled
Physical Description: Guraff is one of the most terrifying creatures to behold. Almost 9 feet tall and as strong as a gorilla, Guraff’s Hork-bajir host is in perfect physical condition. He carries some scars from his many battles, though not nearly as many scars as other survivors of those battles would have. When one sees Guraff, there is no doubt that he is deadly, a match for any creature in the known galaxy. He radiates an aura of power such as few carry.
Psych Eval
Personality: Guraff is a strange Yeerk. He lacks the ambition of his race, as well as the desire to enslave others. Instead, he inherited other qualities: honor and loyalty. Guraff is a true patriot. He fights for the glory of battle and the glory of his Empire. Whatever his commanding officers ask of him, he will do it. There is no limit to how far he will go to further the aims of the Yeerk Empire.
However, Guraff is by no means a mindless grunt. He has a keen tactical mind (it is unclear whether this is his own mind or that of his host, a Hork-bajir Seer) and is nearly unstoppable in battle. He is a master of all forms of warfare; he has almost perfect aim with a Dracon beam, is one of the greatest pilots alive, and has mastered nearly all forms of martial arts known to Yeerk. These qualities, combined with his unerring loyalty to the Yeerk Empire, have advanced him through the ranks without him even trying.
There is nothing Guraff likes more than a worthy foe. He has encountered very few in his life who could stand against him for long. He had a special fondness for Elfangor and even gave him the title “Beast Elfangor”, a title that now strikes fear into the hearts of Yeerks. As much as Guraff enjoys a worthy foe, he despises traitors. Even the direct orders of a superior officer may not be enough to keep him from killing any traitors he comes across, be they Yeerk, Andalite, or Human.
Relationships:
 • Esplin 9466 (the Visser) : Guraff’s commander and best friend
 • Tobias : Guraff and Tobias enjoy an odd friendship. Tobias is one of the few who Guraff considers not only a worthy foe but a rival and potential equal. Though enemies, there is no hostility between the two.
 • Rachel: Guraff admires Rachel’s spirit and personality and regrets that he is not able to fight against her anymore.
 • David : Guraff despises David since he is a traitor several times over.
 • Mersa 528 : Another traitor who Guraff hates.
Character History: Guraff was the first Yeerk to take the life of an Andalite. With a stolen Shredder, he fired the first shot in the long war between Andalite and Yeerk. He was one of the first Hork-bajir Controllers and played a pivotal role in the subjugation of the Hork-bajir world. He was also lucky enough to have one of the hosts who was naturally immune to the Quantum Virus. He and Esplin 9466 huddled in a bunker together as the world burned around them. Being some of the only survivors didn’t just catapult them through the ranks, it also forged a bond of friendship between the two of them.
Guraff helped Esplin to gain Alloran-Semitur-Corass as a host. However, when things went slightly awry, Guraff was trapped aboard the Jahar with Elfangor. Elfangor froze him and ejected him into space. He was, luckily, recovered after several years. Immediately, he returned to serve under Esplin (now Visser Three). He became the Captain of the Blade ship and the Visser’s (often unheeded) tactical advisor. He fought valiantly in uncounted battles against the Andalites and is known and feared by them.
During the First Yeerk War, Guraff was the captain of the Blade ship, in charge of it when the Visser was not present. Guraff often supplied his leader with (often unheeded) tactical advice. When the Yeerks captured the morphing technology, Guraff and his host were given the power almost instantly. When Tom’s Yeerk betrayed the Visser, he and his fellows incapacitated Guraff and his host, cryogenically freezing them for fear that they couldn’t manage to kill him. When the One took command, Guraff was revived, though he was frozen again when he refused to swear loyalty to the One. When the Visser again took power, he negotiated for Guraff’s second revival. Now, Guraff (whose advice is much more heeded this time around) is the Visser’s right-hand man once again, leading in many of the battles for Earth.
Game Play Information
Faction: Yeerk Empire
Noteworthy Abilities: Morphing power. Guraff is nearly invincible in his host body, able to overcome even an Andalite, Kelbrid, or a Howler.
Canon?: Yes
Esplin 9466 (“the Visser”)
Neomorphs
Physical Statistics
Height: Slightly above average
Weight: Average
Physical Description: The Visser now inhabits the body of Prince Imrahil, an Andalite traitor who the Visser infested after Aximili was freed from him. Imrahil is slightly larger than the average Andalite, and his fur has a hint of silver to it.
Psych Eval
Personality: The Visser is a perfectionist. It is not enough for him to do something; he must do it perfectly. He doesn’t take failure well, often punishing the nearest person he can blame for it. He is also arrogant, though that has diminished as a result of his loss during the First Yeerk War. He has been changing his leadership style and relying more and more on Guraff 427 for advice. He is, however, still a harsh overlord, demanding absolute obedience and loyalty from his subjects. Punishments are harsh and frequent for those who fail him. He is notably cruel, ruthless, and somewhat cunning. He is a general at heart, desiring only to lead an army to victory instead of the quite infiltration he has been forced to attempt a second time. The Visser is also ambitious, though, as the One’s direct servant, there is no more room for advancement for him.
Relationships:
 • Guraff 427 : best friend; second-in-command
 • Prince Imrahil-Feyorn-Breeyar : host; mortal enemy
 • Prince Aximili-Esgarrouth-Isthill : former host; mortal enemy
 • Tobias : mortal enemy
 • Mersa 528 : mortal enemy
Character History: Esplin was a young Yeerk when the war all started. He gained high honors in the subjugation of the Hork-bajir, where he befriended Guraff. Esplin was well known to be obsessed with the Andalites, and this obsession soon became valued knowledge. One of the greatest moments of Esplin’s life was when he, with the aid of Guraff 427, captured and infested Alloran-Semitur-Corass, an Andalite. Alloran was Esplin’s host for many years.
Esplin was given the task of subduing Earth. His efforts were continuously frustrated by the Animorphs and, when he was betrayed by a subordinate and his Pool ship captured, he was defeated. After a trial, he was sentenced to a life of imprisonment. His time in confinement made him nothing if not more bitter. When the One came to Earth, it freed Esplin and gave him control over Prince Aximili-Esgarrouth-Isthill, as well as the remaining Yeerk forces. Esplin was given the task of subjugating Earth once more.

Physical Description: Mersa 528 inhabits the body of Hedrick Chapman, an important host from the First Yeerk War. As such, he is in his late 50s. What hair he has left is mostly grey, and he is far from a physical threat. However, he still has a predatory look; whether it’s from the host’s time as a Controller or an assistant principal or form the Yeerk in his head, it is impossible to say.
Psych Eval
Personality: Mersa is a highly ambitious Yeerk. He moved quickly through the ranks of the Yeerk hierarchy and the Visser put him in charge of opening a second front in the invasion of Earth. However, Mersa betrayed the Visser, using the forces he had been given to launch a Yeerk Rebellion. He intends to take control of all of Earth, but knows that he cannot do that while the Visser still stands. Because of this, he is willing to work with the Animorphs towards their mutual goal of destroying the Visser.
Relationships:
 • Tobias : Mersa’s contact with the Animorphs; he doesn’t communicate much with anyone else
 • Guraff 427 : a mortal enemy
 • Esplin 9466 (the Visser) : Mersa’s rival and mortal enemy
 • Prince Imrahil--Feyorn-Breeyar : for a time, he worked under Mersa, who protected him from infestation in exchange for his services.
Character History: Mersa is of a new breed of Yeerks, born on the Blade ship during the time before it came to be in the service of the One. Mersa has no loyalty to the usual Yeerk concepts and instead values only his own gain. His ambition and intelligence quickly earned him a high place in the Visser’s regime; so high that he was given Chapman as a host (a point of honor due to Chapman’s status during the previous war) and command of a force to begin a second invasion. Normally, this task would have been given to Guraff, but the Visser preferred to keep the old soldier by his side to deal with the Animorphs. Mersa betrayed the Visser and launched a rebellion, forging an alliance with the Animorphs to help ensure his survival.

Soon afterwards, he met Necya Hafsol whilst caged in the yeerk pool, and they later got married in secret and having two sons, both taken away straight after birth, one of whom, was never named and went missing. After accidentally crashing a bug fighter and somehow escaping the Vissers wrath, he became a shock troop under him.
Seshna 355, Sonel's Yeerk master, joined with Tom and his rebels in their coup against Visser Three. As a result, Sonel ended up on the run with the others. When Esplin 9466 was again placed in command of the Yeerk forces, he spared Seshna and Sonel in light of their past services to him and the fact that he was in need of experienced troops.
