Re: President-Elect Trump
I try not to think about it too much, but while he certainly is one of the last people I want to see in the oval office, our government does have the saving grace of having checks and balances to keep him from doing anything too insane.
The absolute worst case scenario has us dealing with him for eight years, and four is much more likely. I don't expect much social progress in the next four years, but we'll survive. Then we can pick up where we left off.
We can be better. We can be more. This is just a bump on the road.

Re: President-Elect Trump
I don't have even that much faith.
I still can't get over "Why can't we just use nukes?" That power he will have, and that one we won't survive.
Plus he's quite capable of rolling back rights for just about everyone. He's already in the habit of trying to silence opposition. The media seems terrified of him already.
I don't have your confidence that will survive this. At least, not completely.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.
Have hope that we can see this through, and have a bug-out bag prepared just in case.
Oh, and don't worry about global thermonuclear war. Anyone that launches nuclear weapons to destroy a target is going to go for an airburst to destroy strategic targets like supply lines and military bases. Even the biggest nukes will leave minimal nuclear fallout outside of their immediate kill range, which will only take out individual cities for the most part. As long as you don't live in a city that makes military supplies or has a base you'll probably be fine.
I live close to a place that makes military airplane parts, and even if they launch a Tsar Bomba at it I'll be fine.
You can use this map to find out how bad any given nuke near you will be.

Surface for worst case scenario, airburst is much more likely though. Then set it off at the site of your nearest major factory or military base.
