Global warming - Is it for real?
I used to believe that it was really happening, until a few days back, when a discussion with mrchuckles led me to search for concluding evidence regarding this, which I found none.
So, as of now, my opinion is, I'm not sure whether it's really happening or not.

Re: Global warming - Is it for real?
Nice topic, BTW… I read somewhere that controversial threads attract more members.
Well, you already know my stance… I think the earth is heating up. But, I don’t think that people caused it. I think that the earth has natural hot/cool cycles that are going to happen no matter what.

To lift an idea from George Carlin, it seems a bit egotistical to think that humanity could destroy the planet as old as ours with a couple hundred years worth of pollutants. We probably aren't helping any, but it probably isn't entirely our fault.

Re: Global warming - Is it for real?
Global Warming has always been real, and it happens after every ice age. In fact, we're still in the process of "defrosting," so to speak. See, what people don't realize, is that global climate change is a very natural thing...however, it's the actual speed of our "defrosting," is what is causing all this alarm. See, by nature's "natural" standards, the total melting of our polar ice caps should not be done for another hundred years, what scientists are saying, however, is that instead of a couple hundred years, it's now become somewhere around the neighbor hood of half a century, or at most, a full century.
Either way...I get more beaches. BD -gets shot-
Also for the record, the PC way of putting it would be: Global Climate Change.

One question. I haven't watched Al Gore's movie, so, I don't know, but,
Maybe global warming is going on. So what?

So what? How could you ask that?darkflame91 wrote:One question. I haven't watched Al Gore's movie, so, I don't know, but,

You really need to watch Al Gore's documentary. You'll get your answer.
If I get time, I'll quote from my Environmental Education book the ill-effects of global warming.

As a friend of mine puts it…
Okay, that’s a little bit of an understatement. But from what I hear, people who propagate global warming, (like Al Gore), tend to over-exaggerate the side-effects quite a bit.Global warming, worst case scenario: The earth becomes a tropical paradise!

I remember hearing that somewhere...I'm not for or against the theory...All I'm asking for decent, un-exaggerated, proof either way...Global warming, worst case scenario: The earth becomes a tropical paradise!
