Why my images are not showing up?

Post by Ellimist » Thu Nov 06, 2008 8:27 pm

If you find that the image you embedded in your post is not showing up, or it is just showing the text "Image" instead of the image, chances are that the image you are trying to embed is hotlink-protected.

In layman's terms, hotlink protection is a mechanism by which a website disallows it's images to be shown in other websites. By this they can cut down on server bandwidth usage as well as server load. This, in no way, is a bug or fault in the forum script AFF uses, rather, it's the restriction of the site on which the image is hosted, on how their images can be used. The images hosted on http://animorphsfanforum.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or http://files.animorphsfanforum.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; are not hotlinked, and they can be embedded/used on any website.
Read more on hotlinking.

Solution :
Save the hotlinked image on your computer and upload it to an image hosting service like ImageShack, which allows hotlinking. Then use the code they provide you to embed the image in your post.
