Re: Is Windows 7 worth the upgrade
I would like to give a little warning about WIN 7; if you are installing on a laptop make sure you have a new battery; it tends to be a power hog

Re: Is Windows 7 worth the upgrade
Well from my experience it's really no worse of a power hog than Vista was. I'm pretty sure my battery lasts just as long or longer since I upgraded. Plus everythings just easier and faster than either XP or Vista. Honestly... I can't give a reason why you shouldn't upgrade if you have the cash.

Re: Is Windows 7 worth the upgrade
Ive been using windows 7 since the beta releases and love it, but only within the last year have i noticed it starting to be used in a corporate enviroment which usually means that the operating system is worth the upgrade. As was seen with Vista corporate enviroments turned a blind eye when it was released and continued to use windows xp. Many universities and well as large business are upgrading to win 7 therefore so should you

Re: Is Windows 7 worth the upgrade
well i've tried both XP, Vista and Windows 7. most of the programming kids agree that vista is the worst of the three. (I am not a programmer) many new things about Windows 7 I really enjoyed. other things such as not allowing you to order files in your own order instead of in their presets, alphabetically date added etc, were rather annoying. if you have Vista, i suggest you change. i've heard two people say, they updated to windows Vista only to switch back to XP. I think both XP and Windows 7 are acceptable. though if what they say about support ending for XP is true, then yeah, it probably is time for you to update to windows 7. until then you can procrastinate updating.

Re: Is Windows 7 worth the upgrade
It all depends.
Look at the minimum system requirements.
Do you really believe your system meets and also EXCEEDS these requirements?
I honestly don't recommend the upgrade unless it exceeds the requirements.
Also -
An upgrade is only possible with Windows Vista.
If running XP, carefully make sure your system exceeds the requirements.
You will be forced to do a clean install.
If not, you have to upgrade to Vista, then Seven.
Make sure all of your hardware has been tested and is fully supported.
Check with the manufacturer to make sure you have drivers for Seven. If not you will run into trouble.
Don't borrow a friends copy!
There are anti-piracy techniques in place. Even though you aren't required to enter a serial number at install, you're technically installing a trial if you're going that route.
There ARE ways around this, but they are illegal, and they aren't 100% guaranteed. I've repaired systems by people who have tried to get around it. Ever since XP SP2, they have introduced a genuine advantage program.
Seven and XP SP2 and above will BOTH give you annoyances if you are using a pirated copy. Not to mention - I've gone in to look at systems where system updates (this was in vista) would kill your work-around for licensing.
I feel confident in my experience.
I have been in the closed beta programs for XP SP3, Vista, and Seven.

I would at this point upgrade to Windows 8. The Metro interface is fine and can be bypassed if you don't like it.

Windows 7 was a wise move after vista, but W8... they messed up BIG time (from what I've seen + friends)

Yeah, the windows 8 interface is pretty much a mess for non-touchscreen devices. Stick with windows 7 for laptops/PCs.

Re: Is Windows 7 worth the upgrade
I'm still running XP on my two laptops and Ubuntu Studio on my desktop, so I'm not any authority on Windows 7.
Animorphs: The Abridged Series. Post there so I'm not lonely.

Well, it's just entertainment, folks.
