Did anybody else hear about this? Jack Andraka, a 15 year old kid from Maryland, just discovered a new way to detect pancreatic cancer that is 168 times faster, 26,667 times less expensive, and 400 times more sensitive than what we used to use.
And, I'm not 100% sure about this, but my guess is that the technique he invented could be used for detecting all kinds of other illnesses, not just pancreatic cancer. (I used to work in a lab where we did ELISA's - the old method of detecting pancreatic cancer, HIV, and all sorts of other things - and I see no reason why Jack's technique can't be used for anything that we used to use ELISA's for.)
Here's an article about him, for anyone who's interested:

Coolest. Kid. Ever. To anyone who says today's youth are useless/lazy/apathetic/etc.... HAH!

Re: 15 Year Old Makes Huge Cancer Discovery
<Not only is that impressive, I saw a story about a year ago about a girl who for her high school science project found a cure for cancer.>
<The first two links are about a 17 year old girl who found a cure for cancer, the other one is about a diffrent possable cure.>

How about writing a symphony at age nine?
Or a book at 15.
Or a book at 15.
