Well currently, I would have to say the death of King Jong Il. I am curious to see if his son will lose control of the country.

I wasn't old enough to know what was going on when the towers fell.

How about the fact that Y2K was a no show?

Don't count your chickens before they hatch, Visser. There's still Apocolypse 2012. ;)

Y2K was supposed to happen as the year changed from 1999 to 2000, both of which were years of the 20th century. The 21st century started in 2001.
What is not the answer to this question?

Details, details. No need to be so minute, dear.

But minding minute and irrelevant details is my purpose in life.

I could, of course, have argued that Y2K not happening was ultimately a minor event that didn't really have any lasting implications, certainly not compared to the WTC attacks or even Katrina. But where's the fun in that?

HP is hardly world news...
<Given how many countries and languages the Harry Potter books were published in, I would say that it is world news, however even with the first post of this topic being in 2011, I think it is a bit early for this kind of talk.>
<If anything we should be talking about the most important events in the 20th century. After all, tomorrow's news might have an event even bigger than anything listed here, blowing all of them out of the water, as they say, yet the most important event of the 20th century has clearly already happened.>
